The FTSE 100 Index shrugged off a tougher session on Wall Street overnight to open back on positive ground today.

As traders digested a handful of key results, the blue chip index made steady progress in line with earlier predictions by financial bookies – up 15.6 points at 4059.9 after an hour of trading – despite a 91 point fall for the Dow Jones.
