Diageo to make trading statement

Second half figures from Smirnoff vodka-to-Guinness company Diageo are likely to have been affected by a number of difficulties when the company makes a trading statement on Wednesday.

Factors include the slower consumption of its products in Europe, the SARS outbreak – which hit duty free sales in Asia – and poor trading in the US in the lead-up to the Iraq war.
