British business will be “unforgiving” if the British prime minister Tony Blair fails to push for early membership of the euro, a leading industrialist was warning today.

Niall FitzGerald, chairman of Unilever and a board member of the pro-single currency Britain in Europe group, was using a speech in Brussels to warn that Britain will be the “loser” if the decision is kicked into the long grass.
