UK chancellor to back cabinet on euro entry
Britain's Chancellor of the Exchequer Gordon Brown was today expected to pledge to campaign hard for British entry into the single European currency if the Cabinet decides next month that it is in the national economic interest.
The Cabinet is due to reach its verdict in the first week of June, following three weeks of discussions based on 18 Treasury studies on the implications of the euro and the Chancellor’s own assessment of the five tests of whether it would be good for the UK economy.
