Elan said that total revenue for the first quarter fell 42% to $260m (€233.7m) from $446.6m (€401.5m) in Q1, 2002.

Elan has sold off a number of businesses and it said that revenue from the products which it had retained had actually increased by 43% to $148.8m (€133.8m). It says that it sees sales growth in these products in the second quarter.
