Yahoo sees 47% revenue increase in first quarter

Yahoo reported profits of $46.7m (€43.3m) in Q1, up from a loss of $53.6m (€49.7m) in Q1, last year, and showed increased revenues from advertising and its other businesses.

Sales were up to $282.9m (€262.5m) from $192.6m (€178.7m) a year ago, better than expected by analysts.

Yahoo’s marketing services division which includes its advertising, paid search and shopping services brought in $190m (€176m).

Many companies this year have seen a fall off in advertising revenue so this increase for Yahoo was particularly welcome.

It also saw growth in its internet access business and now has 2.9 million paying subscribers. Yahoo expects that figure to reach 3.4 to 4.2 million by the end of 2003.
