Four consecutive days of gains on the London market came to an abrupt halt today as investors continued to wait for news of the imminent war in Iraq.

London’s benchmark FTSE 100 Index had slipped by 21.1 points to 3726.2 in the first hour of trading with little in the way of corporate news to lift shares later today.
