Labour Party MEP Proinsias de Rossa has said that eircom may be in breach of EU law if it abandons its obligation to provide telephone access to all homes and business in Ireland.

Mr de Rossa was responding to reports that the former state-owned firm is planning to set an upper limit on the amount of cash it is prepared to spend on connecting new users.
