The European Commission has accused the Government of engaging in anti-competitive practices by awarding the contract to handle social welfare payments to An Post.

The European Commission has accused the Government of engaging in anti-competitive practices by awarding the contract to handle social welfare payments to An Post.

The commission has threatened to bring a case before the European Court of Justice if Ireland does not rescind the €40m contract, which was renewed in January 2000.
