London surges ahead after Powell address

The London market made up for a poor start and surged ahead today, as traders reacted to US Secretary of State Colin Powell’s key address.

By the close of trading the FTSE 100 Index was up 88.6 points at 3678.7, reversing a subdued opening which saw it tumble an initial 21 points.
