Weak performances expected on stock markets

Overnight Asian equity markets finished weak with the Nikkei index in Japan down more than 2%.

US markets are expected to be weak today after the Dow Jones index fell more than 3%, the lowest since 1997, during yesterday's trading session.

The FTSE 100 also entered the day lower falling 1.9%.

The Irish market was closed for the bank holiday weekend.
