FTSE faces five-year low

The London market suffered yet another sharp fall today, plunging towards the 4300 level as investors suffered a deepening crisis of confidence.

By lunchtime the FTSE 100 Index was down 80.9 points at 4339.2, nearing intra-day lows reached in the wake of the September 11 attacks.
