Metromedia Fiber Network has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the US for itself and for most of its subsidiaries.

The company has said that it has reached an agreement with its senior secured lenders which will enable it to fund its operations while it implements its plan to become cash flow positive. As part of this plan it will sell non-productive properties (including idle data centres or non-essential offices).
