An independent report into last year’s foot and mouth crisis has shown that Ireland’s only confirmed case of the disease cost the economy around €210m.

According to the report, the Irish agriculture sector actually benefited by more than €100m, through higher prices and increased exports, but it warned that a major outbreak could have cost billions of euro.
