The proposed merger between Compaq and HP could be killed as the largest single shareholder, the David and Lucile Packard Foundation, which holds 10% of HP stock, has said it will vote against the merger.

Other members of the family are voting against it and now, in total, holders of 18% of the stock have said they will vote against the merger.
