European budget airlines have appealed to the European Commission for the right to fill departure slots at airports which were abandoned by national carriers in the wake of the attacks in the US last month.

The EC has a law saying national airlines must use their allocated slots or they will be given to their competitors, but since September 11th, most flag carriers have been calling for this rule to be relaxed.
