Heinz launches green tomato ketchup

Green-coloured tomato ketchup is hitting Britain's supermarket shelves after tourists sampled the product in the US and wanted it closer to home.

Heinz say that combining blue and yellow food colourings to achieve a rich green colour is commonly used and completely safe.

The colours are added to the regular red tomato sauce recipe and supposedly taste identical to the more traditional red product.

Caroline Griffiths, a spokeswoman for Heinz, said: "The sauce is something different and has huge novelty value.

"We may even go into other colours if this comes off."
