Nikkei index falls

The Nikkei 225 index has closed at 13,715.60, down 50.07 points.

The dollar was at 121.98 yen in Tokyo trading, down from 122.56 in late New York trading, and at 0.9063 against the euro, compared with 0.9028 in New York.
