No room to get it wrong as US extends winning streak

Economists do not have a great track record in predicting recessions, as the economic crash of 2008-09 clearly showed.

This is because the shocks that often cause recessions are hard to predict, while economic models are not good at predicting downturns.

And recessions are becoming rarer, with an unmistakable tendency for longer business cycles in recent decades.
