The patter of establishment calls for Vermont senator Bernie Sanders to end his campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination has built into a hailstorm.

“Bye, bye, Bernie,” The Washington Post editorialised prematurely, echoing numerous talking heads. Politico reports Democratic pols are quietly urging him to pack it in. Even US president Barack Obama suggested to deep-pocket donors that it’s time to fold in behind former secretary of state Hillary Clinton. (They already have, Mr President, they already have.)
