Over the last several weeks, there have been a number of articles both here and in the UK on the issue of ‘death duties’ or ‘inheritance tax’, as it is labelled in Ireland.

Inheritance tax is not something most of us think a lot, even with the current low tax free threshold levels.

For most people the main asset of any value is the family home. In recent years the value of our houses have plummeted so the likelihood of getting caught for inheritance tax, at least for the time being for the vast bulk of people, is relatively low. Nevertheless, it’s something we should all be keeping our eyes on.
