Investing in the EU’s cities and regions is crucial for ensuring stability, jobs, and growth, but new funding mechanisms have to be explored said Brendan Howlin, the public expenditure and reform minister.

Speaking yesterday at a Committee of the Regions and European Investment Bank (EIB) conference in Brussels, he said the EIB had a very important role to play in the transmission of credit, along with European structural and& investment funds, the Government, and the private sector.

“During our [EU] presidency we are pleased we have been able to work with the committee on its opinion on the synergies between private investment and public funding at local and regional levels,” he said.
