Manufacturing growth slows

The annualised rate of increase in manufacturing prices dipped last month, but 2012 is still likely to see an overall significant increase on last year’s levels.

According to the CSO’s latest wholesale price index, factory gate prices (the basic cost of manufacturing goods prior to any mark-up to generate profit) rose by 2.2% on a year-on-year basis in September; down from the 6% annualised increase evident in August.

On a monthly basis, September’s wholesale prices were down by 2.3%. August had seen a monthly increase of 1% and last month’s fall was the first seen since April.
