Thousands set to protest in Dublin over the future of family farming

Many dairy co-ops, beef, lamb, pig and poultry processors, grain merchants, and livestock marts are expected to close their doors today, and will not accept farm produce as a show of solidarity with the protesting farmers.

Supporters of today’s march believe their industry is being undermined by disproportionate budget hits, proposed cuts by the EU in farm payments, rural development, and disadvantaged area schemes, plus a lack of retail regulations that are giving supermarket multiples undue control over prices paid for farm gate output.
