The idea of cutting taxes in Ireland has disappeared from the political and chattering class narrative in the past year or two.

It’s not a great surprise given the appalling state of our national finances and the drumbeat mantra from the troika and others that we have to raise additional revenues from citizens to dig us out of a large hole.

That should not stop us asking serious questions about the amount of cash being drained from people’s pockets.
