The planned introduction of new taxes on betting and gaming companies operating in Ireland should boost the tax take from the industry by as much as 66%, or €20m, per annum, the Department of Finance has claimed.

In publishing the Betting (Amendment) Bill, yesterday, Finance Minister Michael Noonan said the taxes would usher in “a fair and equitable” regulatory system.

“This bill will bring into place a fair and equitable licensing and regulatory regime for all bookmakers and betting intermediaries,” he said.
