Teagasc has launched a five-tier strategy to support new product development in the Irish agri-food sector, and to avoid Irish-generated patents migrating overseas.

The Food Technology and Knowledge Transfer Strategy was unveiled by the Taoiseach Enda Kenny and Agriculture, Food and the Marine Minister Simon Coveney. The launch took place at yesterday’s Food Innovation Gateways exhibition in the Aviva Stadium, Dublin, at which some 40 Teagasc technologies for the food industry were on display.

The event highlighted live offers of technology patents which may be picked up by the Irish agri-food sector, though the licensing rights could also be bought by overseas parties.
