EirGrid link with Britain on track

The final phase to complete EirGrid’s energy link between Ireland and Britain began yesterday with the arrival of a purpose built cable-laying vessel, The AMC Connector.

The ship will lay the 100km cable from the north Dublin coast across the Irish sea to Wales.

EirGrid project director John Fitzgerald said: “The commencement of the marine cable-laying is the final piece of this incredible energy project. The marine aspect of the project is the most challenging stage from both a technical but also weather perspective.
