Immigrants can help create employment and act as drivers of the economy, according to research presented at a seminar by the Immigrant Council of Ireland.

A sociology professor from the University of California, Ivan Light, said that the due to their language abilities and life experiences, immigrants are often well-placed to create jobs that other people wouldn’t be able to recognise.

“Historically, migrants have been key agents of enterprise, both for the countries from which they come and the countries to which they move. They are well endowed to do the work of linking and integrating economies.
