ICMSA calls for a unified model in assessing milk quota performance

CO-OPS need to conform to a unified model of assessing milk quota performance to rebuild supplier confidence, according to the ICMSA.

Having met with the milk quota review group yesterday, ICMSA dairy committee chairman Pat McCormack has expressed greater faith in the department’s estimate of 2.41% over-quota than in the 6%-7% figures being produced by some co-ops.

With super-levy fines now seeming unavoidable come March 31 next year, Mr McCormack wants the co-ops to respond to calls to issue harmonised figures. He wants to reduce the huge disparity between the figures for Ireland’s over-quota status, and give farmers the data they need to make informed decisions on quota management.
