Rehn: Use Ireland as example for debt crisis

IRELAND’s largely successful efforts to overcome its economic crisis should be used as motivation by European policymakers looking to solve the debt crisis threatening to engulf the eurozone, according to the EU’s Economic and Financial Affairs Commissioner.

Opening yesterday’s Irish Banking Federation (IBF) national conference in Dublin — via video link from Brussels — Olli Rehn said that while tough decisions remain for the Irish Government, he is confident they will be dealt with successfully.

“The determination Ireland has shown in its efforts to conquer its economic crisis should be the example for all European policymakers,” he said.
