CORK businesses have hit out at the level of rates they are forced to pay, calling for “greater transparency” on how the money is spent.

Many firms claim they are not getting value for money for their rate payments, with one-in-five companies surveyed saying commercial rates are posing a threat to their firms.

The survey, conducted by Cork Chamber, also revealed, however, that one -in-three Cork companies expect to hire more staff in the next 12 months.
