The farm group leader said that the retention of title for food suppliers and the outlawing of below-cost selling are two other central issues for the new retail code, which Enterprise Minister Richard Bruton is scheduled to implement by September 2. The IFA cites its concerns in a submission issued to the minister.

John Bryan said: “The recent experience of suppliers to Superquinn underlines the importance of securing equity in the food supply chain. The imbalance that exists led to suppliers being squeezed out by the receivership process and without payment, threatening their viability and jobs.
