AS milk production continues at high levels, and more dairy farmers come up against quota limits and face super-levy fines, Department of Agriculture officials have reminded registered milk purchasers of the regulations for cow leasing arrangements.

Where certain farmers who are unable to fill their milk quotas due to insufficient cow numbers arrange to lease cows from other farmers, require-ments include transfer to the lessee’s holding of the leased cows, accompanied by their passports/cattle identity cards.

Under no circumstances should animals that are identified improperly or documented improperly be moved.
