AGRICULTURAL cuts of 22% proposed in the National Recovery Plan are far in excess of other Government departments, said IFA president John Bryan.

Speaking at the executive council meeting of the Irish Farmers’ Association in Dublin yesterday, Mr Bryan called on Agriculture Minister Simon Coveney to achieve a better result for farmers in this December’s budget.

He said that funding for farm schemes must be maintained by reducing costs elsewhere in the next budget, if the Government is serious about the Food Harvest 2020 targets.
