Mortgage holders overcharged

Dublin: A Central Bank sample ‘code of conduct’ inspection of six mortgage lenders found that 3,100 mortgage holders had been overcharged a collective €70,000 on repayments on their mortgage arrears.

The Central Bank found four lenders in breach of the code, with the other two fully compliant.

The Central Bank plans to extend its list of prohibited charges to provide further protection to mortgage customers in arrears.
