Online digital media company reports record figures for 2010
The company recorded group revenues of €58m last year and saw its audience figures, or monthly users, rise to 26 million.
The company is viewed as a European equivalent of US firms like Demand Media and AOL, which recently purchased the news and blog site, the Huffington Post.
Populis is ranked as one of Europe’s fastest growing digital media companies; producing multi-lingual content on demand across a number of brands like Excite Europe, Better Deals, Nanopublishing, Blogosfere and Blogo.
The company operates its main European hub out of offices on Dublin’s Barrow Street, which has room for expansion, and currently staffs 58 people.
The company has more than tripled its multi-lingual content production over the past two years.
Populis is currently producing over 35,000 articles and videos each month across 550 of its own websites in eight different languages.
According to Populis’ co-founder and chairman, Luca Ascani: “In a year that has already seen an IPO in the US from Demand Media and a high profile acquisition by AOL of the Huffington Post, Populis is positioning itself as the key content-on-demand player in a consolidating European and South American market; starting the year with the acquisition of Blogo.”
He added that the company’s model is “a scientific approach to content production, with a winning combination of content-on-demand and premium web properties”.
“The company is now ready-to-scale in new markets and 2011 will be another exciting year of growth for us with more strategic acquisitions and increased organic growth,” Mr Ascani said.
