MORE than half of hotel rooms in Ireland were vacant last month with many hotels believed to be operating at a loss as the average room rate fell to €63.93.

However, Dublin hotels were boosted in September with the GAA Championship finals and the Michael Bublé concerts resulting in many hotels selling out.

For every full hotel for the All-Ireland hurling final, there were two times as many full hotels for the football final and almost four times as many full hotels for the Michael Bublé concerts.
