Output at Kenmare’s Mozambique mine up 8%

PRODUCTION levels at the Moma Titanium Minerals mine in Mozambique — the primary asset of Irish mining company, Kenmare Resources — grew by 8% in the second half of 2010, compared with the first half of the year.

In a trading update, published yesterday, the Dublin-headquartered company said that as well as the aforementioned increase in heavy mineral concentrate production, there was a 12% rise in the production of ilmenite (used for titanium dioxide production) and a 21% rise in zircon production.

The company called its second-half performance “very strong, given that mining operations ceased for a month due to a tailings pond breach in October”.
