THE Government is expected to announced a fresh injection of capital into AIB today to bring it into line with end-of-year regulatory requirements.

Reliable sources said last night that Finance Minister Brian Lenihan is taking immediate steps that will allow him to inject funds into the bank to meet the new guidelines.

AIB is required by the Financial Regulator to have another €3bn to €4bn in its capital reserves by year end to meet the more stringent lending conditions it has laid down in the wake of the banking collapse.
