VODAFONE made 9% less on each customer in Ireland in the last quarter but more than one in every two bill pay device sales were smartphones.

The mobile phone giant added 31,700 customers in the last quarter and now has 2.18 million mobile phone customers in Ireland. The company saw a 26% increase in data use in the quarter ended September 30, 2010.

Free calls and texts sent by Vodafone Ireland Pay As You Go customers amounted to 373m minutes and 301m texts in the quarter. Vodafone has 2.38 million customers across mobile, fixed line and DSL in Ireland.
