Decline in construction led by civil engineering

THE civil engineering sector is now leading the three-year and four-month decline in the construction sector, according to the latest Ulster Bank Construction Purchasing Managers’ Index.

The index – which is seasonally adjusted and designed to track changes in total construction activity – dropped to 44.5 in September, from 48.4.

The decline in activity signalled by the latest figure was steeper than the long-run series average.
