Call to template government report

Limerick: Chambers Ireland has called for the Limerick Local Government Report to be used as a template for local authority efficiency gains and cost consolidation nationally.

The report identifies €20 million in savings that could be generated by integrating the local authorities of Limerick city and county.

Deputy chief executive of Chambers Ireland Seán Murphy said: “We particularly note the finding that approximately €6m in cost savings would be earmarked for reducing rates in Limerick City to the same levels as charged throughout Co Limerick. If such a strategy were to be applied nationally, this would be of great benefit to struggling businesses.”
