Dairygold wins more cheese gold at Nantwich International Show
Chief executive Jim Woulfe said Dairygold was very pleased with the results at Nantwich as it is testament to its heritage, hard work and the dedication that goes into its cheese making.
The Dairygold Food Ingredients (DFI) business in Mitchelstown now operates the largest cheddar cheese production facility in Ireland or Britain.
“Our annual output of over 45,000 tonnes is sold internationally to the food ingredients market for a variety of uses in a wide range of food industry applications,” he said.
Mr Woulfe said the Dairygold Innovation Centre in Mitchelstown contributed significantly to the development of both the low salt cheddar and the Queso Tierno light cheeses, which won gold and silver awards at Nantwich.
DFI won the top prize in three categories.
Low-salt cheddar secured victory in the cheese with health benefits category and it also scooped the distinguished Bradbury and Son award for best grated cheese and the David Dunn Memorial Trophy for the best cheese board.
Queso Tierno light won silver in the mixed milk cheese category while Dairygold Mature Cheddar received a bronze.
This year’s Nantwich Cheese Festival awards saw 3,200 entrants from 24 countries participating and attracted over 33,000 visitors.
