YOU can watch a film on them, listen to any radio station in the world and even make a vuvuzela noise if you are so inclined, but if you are a leftie you may not be able to utilise its core function – making and receiving a phone call.

Even before Irish users get to avail of the new iPhone 4 next July, its maker Apple has already been forced to release advice on how to overcome the problem of losing signal when holding the handset. Apparently if gripped by the lower left hand corner the coverage is blocked. “Gripping any mobile phone will result in some attenuation of its antenna performance, with certain places being worse than others depending on the placement of the antennas,” it said.

“This is a fact of life for every wireless phone.”
