Market gains on light volumes

THE Irish market saw modest gains yesterday, as the US and British markets were closed for public holidays.

Volumes across Europe remained weak and this resulted in the ISEQ index gaining 8.92 to 2,947.70.

AIB and Bank of Ireland both gave up ground, losing 1c and 2.4c to finish the day at €1.03 and 71.5c. Irish Life and Permanent added 2.1c to €1.95.
