Biomedical device collaboration deal

Cork: The Tyndall National Institute at UCC and the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland are to form a collaboration which, it is claimed, could propel Ireland to the forefront of innovation in the biomedical device sector.

The two bodies will pool their strengths in ICT design hardware, clinical trial and market validation. This collaboration is expected to enhance Ireland’s reputation as Europe’s leading cluster for medical devices and the related technologies used for surgical, diagnostic and therapeutic purposes, such as stents and hip implants.

Some 83,000 people are employed in ICT, which accounts for €50 billion in Irish exports.
