Dublin: Since the car scrappage scheme was introduced in January, it has been discovered that many people could not avail of the deal if they were the owner of a vehicle but were only a named driver on their spouse’s insurance policy.

For example, if a husband was the registered owner of a car to be scrapped but his wife was the main holder of the insurance policy with him as a named driver, he could not avail of the scheme.

The Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI) brought this anomaly to the attention of the Government in order to get the issue resolved.
