THE new Quality Payment System for beef was described as an abject failure yesterday by the Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers Association.

Jackie Cahill, president, said the grid had been roundly rejected by farmers right across the country to such an extent that it must be withdrawn.

Any attempts to “tweak” the new grid are doomed to fail. Much time and effort will be saved by accepting it has failed and returning to the drawing board, he said.
