THE Irish market edged higher yesterday morning as the first week of the New Year drew to a close.

Having traded in the morning, the market dipped after lunch reflecting weakness in the US markets as they opened. The ISEQ index still managed to gain 6.01 points to finish the week at 3,076.48.

The financials were poor on the day, despite having a positive week overall. AIB and Irish Life and Permanent decreased 0.2c and 2.7c to €1.65 and €3.50. Bank of Ireland bucked this trend slipping 0.7c to close at €1.70.
